Sam Himself Returns With Dreamy Jewel ‘Golden Days’

We were lucky enough to discover Swiss ‘Fondue Western’ baritone Sam Himself earlier this year, when we came across ‘’Never Let Me Go’, a fresh, glorious track balancing between pop and psychedelia. Last week, Sam Himself returned with the next chapter in his bright career. ‘Golden Days’ is everything we could have wished for: hopeful indie-pop tinged in dreamy accents, shifting the project’s sound towards a wider audience. What’s still the same though is the Brooklin resident’s signature deep and gritty vocals, lightly floating over the instrumental with nonchalance, while transforming what’s a great song into a complete work of art.

A complete work of art requires a serious collaborator: in ‘Golden Days’, Sam gets creative with the help of Daniel Schlett and JD Werner, striking a musical partnership that’s obviously very effective.

What do we love about the record? It’s hard to choose. We love all of it. The track sets the tone immediately with a romantic groove made up of retro strings, electric guitar and a constant, pensive drum groove. It’s only when the chorus hits that we get to appreciate the full magnitude of ‘Golden Days’: a luscious, fuzzed lead guitar closes the circle, providing a fitting sonic universe where Sam Himself’s quirky and peculiar vocals can thrive.

It is safe to say, the Swiss talent is on to big things. We’ll enjoy listening to them!
