Sally Crosby Tells It How It Is On ‘Talk (Let’s Not)’

Jeremy Bregman

In October last year, Welsh singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Sally Crosby put out a tune called ‘Talk (Let’s Not) and, while I’m admittedly a little late to the party, I have fallen head over heels for it. It’s a beautifully crafted indie-rock piece that’s a bit edgy, a bit raw and a whole lot of fun. “It’s all about getting drunk,” admits Sally. “Something I did a lot at the time the song was written”. Honest, passionate, and forthright, it’s a track that doesn’t take itself too seriously and, in the process, embodies something pure and refreshing.

Inspired by a long list of artists and acts; Laura Marling, Iron & Wine, Noah and the Whale, Kate Nash, and Angus & Julia Stone to name just a few, Crosby has been making and releasing music since 2013. An entire decade ago! She has that wonderful x-factor of having a sound that is uniquely hers, while still clearly giving nods to those that came before (and sometimes after) her.

“Sometimes you’re tired and fed up and you don’t want to talk,” says Crosby. “You just wanna have a good time”! With the exception of, possibly, babies, I’d imagine everybody in the world can relate to this message. I know I did, and that’s why it’s such a smashing tune in my books!
