Sages Share Meaningful Alt-Rock Banger ‘Happy’

Despite his title, ‘Happy’ is a rather introspective, dark and poignant offering. Drenched in emotional guitar tones and expressive harmonies, the track is a nugget of alt-rock and indie sleaze, delivered with charisma and intensity by Sages, a Sacramento-based band with a knack for meaningful lyricism and evocative tones. Honestly, we love it. It reminds us of a heavier version of Death Cab For Cutie, with a healthy alt-rock and emo backbone.

Anticipating a larger EP expected later this year, ‘Happy’ contains all the elements that make Sages a worthy musical discovery. Layer after layer of gritty and spacious guitars, polite yet punchy drums, and vocals to die for, quite friendly and communicative. In fact, the group’s lead vox is probably the most poppish/indie component in their formula, allowing the project to reach a wider audience. It works very well in such a context.

Delving into the inspiration behind the ‘Happy’, Sages explain: “The song lyrics touch on relationships, personal growth, etc., but man getting in the studio with Beau (Burchell) was a new level of therapy. We made that trip down to Temecula, bonded even more as friends, grew as songwriters and really just had a blast putting this together. So yeah, go peep it!”
