We are already familiar with Sadie Nix, having featured her previous effort ‘Oblivion’. Secondly, it’s her determination: starting her music career later in life, Sade showcases fierce drive and artistic awareness, a precious quality in today’s music landscape. Originally from the US, but now based in Brighton, UK, the talented newcomer debuted only last year, instantly mesmerising a wide online audience and contributing to some impressive streaming figures.
Now, Nix returns with the first record of 2023, ‘Tell Me’, a piece that feels as heart-shaking as it feels intense and energetic. In fact, there’s a strong cinematic energy, a certain celebrative and solemn quality that seems to be pairing well with Sadie’s evocative and luscious vocals. Namely inspired by the likes of Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift, it is clear that the American songstress is building on very solid foundations, pursuing an authentic sonic direction.
Lyrically, the song explores the complex world of human relationships, especially in the nuanced and veiled early stages of attraction. As Sadie explains: “the song is about when you are with someone who you know has feelings for you, you can feel it in your bones, yet they keep you at arm’s length, yet always pulling you back in enough to give you hope and then finally saying to them tell me what I should do because I am falling apart.”
