We were oblivious to Sacha Mullin’s art, before today. Turns out, he’s incredibly talented, boasting a unique and authentic style packed with nuanced and eclectic tones. ‘Casino Wilderness Period’ is the strongest evidence of that. The project’s latest effort, the album is drenched in theatrical and poignant tones, delivering relatable and meaningful lyricism on a bed of modern neo-soul, RnB and Pop vibes. Mullin’s vocals are the cherry on the cake, with their extraordinary range and malleability, constantly engaging in luscious melody and passionate long notes.
Produced by Todd Rittman, ‘Casino Wilderness Period’ doesn’t shy away from jazz flavourings, often exploring virtuoso-style instrumental and elegant piano-led pieces. Take ‘Thanks.’, for instance, a pure jazz gem providing the perfect environment for Sacha’s wholesome vocal tone. At the other end of the spectrum, one finds ‘Waves’ a more conceptual, modern and hypnotising offering.
Crucially, the album contains contributions by some notable names, like Emily Bindiger (Leonard Cohen) and Judi Vinar (Bobby McFerrin), among others. ‘Casino Wilderness Period’ is being released via Dog & Pony Records and Dipterid Records.
