A meaningful, empowering anthem, ‘Lions’ sees Detroit-based rapper Ryn Scott embark on a gloomy and legendary journey through grime-flavoured hip-hop with a nostalgic scent to it. His vocal delivery is fierce and charismatic, managing to keep it colourful and engaging while dominating the track with catchy sections and infectious flow. Kaluh Beats join the release on production duties.
Originally from Michigan, Scott opts for meaningful lyrics. He’s not describing how rich he is, or how boss he might be in his community: rather, he focuses on aiding the listeners, offering an argument for reflection and motivation. There’s a personal angle to that too – Ryn is obviously drawing from personal experience.
Speaking about the track, he explains: “Lions was written for the state of Michigan, for Detroit, for the people and energy & love they exuberate. Lions also has a deeper meaning for anyone listening who is trying to break through, for that someone who has stayed after it year after year, for that someone who needs to find the lion inside.”
