Many of you out there might shy away from instrumental Jazz, and why we understand the song behind it, we’d also love to get the keenest listeners closer to a genre that has so much expressive and celebrative potential. That’s why we are proud to feature a fantastic bebop record, a wonderful and majestic composition penned by Ruud Voesten, Dutch bandleader and drummer with a knack for composition and artistic research.
In the midst of the Covid-19 lockdown, Voesten took the opportunity to dive into one of the world’s most famous literary works from the Dark Ages: Dante Alighieri’s Inferno. As he explored the first part of The Divine Comedy, he reflected on his personal connection to the seven capital sins, using Dante’s journey through hell as a guide.
This exploration served as the inspiration for Voesten’s upcoming album, ‘Ambrosia’, which is set to be released in September 2023. The album is based on the first part of The Divine Comedy and takes listeners on a journey through the ten rings of hell as Dante confronts the sins and sinners he finds along the way.
The album’s first single, ‘Clickbait Merchants’, is inspired by the Ring of Fraud, mirroring modern agents using misleading headlines to harvest attention for advertising purposes. Taking us on a peculiar sonic journey, the record seems to channel the lyrical theme with creative flair and instrumental prowess, finding an electrifying charge through the gift of improvisation.
