Roxana Pours Limitless Introspection in ‘The River’ EP

What we appreciate the most about ‘The River’ is its honesty and heightened introspection. A truly personal record, the EP is the result of committed work by its author, Austrian songstress and producer Roxana. Hailing from Graz, the talented creative released the piece back in 2022, at a time when she was busy learning information design at her local university and finding a worthy outlet for personal expression.

Such an outlet has taken the shape of a stunningly buoyant and gentle EP, a record that triumphs over acoustic guitar and light electronic production (courtesy of Roxana’s friend Michl) and the young singer’s cathartic, ethereal vocals. There’s a certain spontaneity in all of this: As if the listeners were close acquaintances, Roxana delivers pure and unfiltered lyricism, simply exploring her consciousness in search of answers to any daily struggles. Her majestic vocals float on the instrumental with understated charisma.

With songs both in English and German, ‘The River’ is a record that deserves to be discovered and appreciated, perhaps in a moment of relaxation or on a solitary evening. Speaking about the inspiration behind it, Roxana explains: “My therapist helped me work through a lot of my issues at the time, and this is a very introspective piece, so there was definitely an influence there.”
