Roman Candles Share Ironic Gem ‘Jesus Was An Astronaut’

A rebellious, practical song, ‘Jesus Was An Astronaut’ seeks to break free of current trends and commercial formulas, throwing it back to the golden days of sleaze and fierce rock’n’roll. The result is a record that’s not afraid to criticise popular culture in favour of a practical approach to everything that’s wrong with the modern obsession with celebrity and unwritten dogmas…

That said, ‘Jesus Was An Astronaut’ is not as raw as you would expect; moving at a steady pace, over a galloping drum groove and sleazy guitar tones, the track empowers Roman Candles’ lead vocals, incredibly evocative and dynamic, with veiled grittiness to them. What follows is witty and catchy lyricism, penned by the group’s Daniel Jackson and Grey Revell.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the record, Roman Candles explain: “An ironic deep dive (irony, a lost art) into religion, MTV, the cults of celebrity and achievement, and the endless quest for fulfillment and meaning in increasingly random and disconnected lives”.
