Atlanta-based singer/songwriter and guitarist Robbie Rapids recently teamed up with producer and fellow musician David Levene (Laghonia) to create a song that, in their words, “pulls from their favourite decades of classic rock influences”. The tune in question is called ‘Babylonian Dragon’, and it’s a haunting reminder of the power of love gone wrong. With its seductive melodies, tight drums, and Alice In Chains-inspired riffs, the pair have created a classic rock ‘n’ roll track that sounds uniquely their own. Fresh yet familiar. Nostalgic yet progressive.
Lyrically, ‘Babylonian Dragon’ is a chilling tale of a man who encounters a mysterious woman online, only to fall victim to her hypnotic and drug-induced trap. The nightmare quickly becomes a reality when he learns that he is being held for ransom. I won’t spoil the rest for you…I promise!
Rapids is perhaps best known for leading a Tom Petty tribute band due to his vocal resemblance and shared musical preferences. He recently decided, however, that it was time to release his own original music. He’s been doing so now since last year, and we can only hope that he doesn’t slow down any time soon!
