We first listened to ‘Here I Am’ without reading any pitch or press release of sorts – we like our music unfiltered, if you will. Well, it’s safe to say we were pretty impressed by it! Introduced by hard-hitting and fierce pop-rock matter with a decisively retro flair, the track showcases its guitar prowess from the get-go; a stunning riffing action reminds us of the glorious glam sounds of the 80s – although the references are far and wide.
Penned by RISE, talented outfit from Liverpool, England, ‘Here I Am’ would have been categorised as Adult Orientated Rock (AOR) a couple of decades ago; Today it’s simply part of an ever-eclectic music scene, where tradition constantly meets the future and morphs into something new. That’s the case for RISE too; their record might be nostalgic but also incredibly contemporary, especially when it comes to production value and the many electronic textures contained in it.
A special shout-out should be given to Sam Kinley’s (aka stayMellow) anthemic and vibrant vocals, completely dominating the record and making sure the listeners can relate to them. Speaking about the lyrical aspect of the song, RISE explains: “It’s about relationships, specifically the nature of long-term relationships and simply “being there” to support each other as the years roll by. It’s unashamedly upbeat in its outlook, focusing on the positives of life”.
