Ian Daly is an American producer and DJ who is the brains behind REFRAKT (NY). Currently based in New York, he recently unleashed his debut EP called ‘False Memories’, and we’ve had it on repeat the whole week! A scintillating and hypnotic mix of dark disco, melodic techno, and world-beats, the EP showcases the influence of Daly’s travels and exposure to unique musical styles and instruments. The title track kicks things off, and you’re immediately thrust into REFRAKT (NY)’s melodic, mesmerising, and entrancing world. Interlocking rhythms and complex textures are the name of the game here, as Daly effortlessly weaves an intricate web of sounds together. A remix of ‘False Memories’ follows straight after.
‘Ventana Del Universo’ is the EP’s second original tune, and it’s another hypnotising and atmospheric song that just takes you on a journey. It’s a bit more laid-back and mellow when compared to ‘False Memories’, but totally as exciting and captivating. Again, a remix of the track follows.
I’ve fallen hard for this EP! It’s the second one this week that has truly blown me away. I also can’t quite believe this is Daly’s first release. I cannot wait to hear more!
