About two months ago, I was transported to a sonic realm of IDM brilliance that blew me away. Courtesy of veteran Canadian artist and producer Michael Gabriel, the tune in question was ‘Sweet Toxin‘ from his ‘Surfacing’ album released last year. I was mesmerized by the hypnotic and immersive electro track and decided I’d dive into the full record. Now, I am here to share my findings…
‘Swagger’ gets the show underway with some seriously entrancing goodness you quickly fall deep into, before my first love ‘Sweet Toxin’ steps up to the plate. Oh, how I’ve missed thee!
‘L’Aventure’ is uplifting and infectious yet dark and mysterious simultaneously, while ‘Farewell, My Love’ eases in with a mellow and soothing groove before eventually settling into a soft and dreamy soundscape that is just irresistible.
‘Prophecy and Conspiracy’ and ‘Gonna Miss You’ are where Michael decides it’s time to get experimental, offering up an almost electro-hip-hop piece and a hard-hitting, leftfield number respectively.
‘Island’ is where our journey concludes, and you know the rules by now. It is yours and yours alone to explore as you wish. Linger along the shorelines, dip your toes, or dive straight in. The choice is yours.
