You won’t be met with bells and whistles when coming across Red Skies Mourning. It is an indie endeavour, with a certain aura of mystery around it. It doesn’t matter though: the project’s music is really good, and it speaks for itself. We have actually already featured the American talent in the past, and we were able to observe him develop and grow release by release, crafting electro-pop gems that feel poignant yet energetic, nostalgic yet exciting.
An ex US Marine, Red Skies Mourning writes about his kaleidoscopic life experiences, and all the challenges and choices we are all met with on a daily basis. Following up from his previous homonymous album, released earlier this year, Red Skies Mourning shuffles the cards a bit on his latest effort, the dancy, disco-infused bop ‘Something About Her’.
There’s a newly-found brightness in the track, a hint of hope you wouldn’t have found before. It’s pure mainstream pop, and it’s done really well. Over a groovy, disco sonic background lay Red Skies Mourning’s charming vocals, taking the challenge of interpreting material that’s different than usual. Nonetheless, they fully pass the test: evocative, malleable and precise when needed.
A convincing effort from Red Skies Mourning, who seems on course to achieve greater and brighter things.
