Reaffinity Delivers Hypnotising And Distorted EP ‘Tether’

‘Tether’ revealed itself as a pretty fierce listening experience. We loved the gritty and spacious intro/build-up, showcasing all the guitar prowess Reaffinity has to offer, drenched in detuned guitar tones and icy distortions. Title track ‘Tether’ is perhaps the EP’s artistic manifesto, bringing the project’s musical vision to fruition. The sonic profile is rather quirky, with a limited amount of bass frequencies but a strong emphasis on bright textures, saturation and distortion, mainly delivered through math-inspired, grungy guitar riff, hard-hitting and complex drum parts.

Reaffinity’s charming and evocative vocals feel so mellow and melodic to create a stark contrast with their instrumental background – that’s what it’s all about, balanced contrasts. It works very well, allowing the American creative to pursue cathartic and introspective lyricism while delivering a punchy and enthralling rock profile.

For some reason ‘Tether’ – the EP – reminds us of shoegaze, even if it’s not. We’d argue that some of the stylings Reaffinity uses are more aking to draw a comparison with such genre, due to their spaciousness and hypnotising character. In reality, we are in grunge, post-punk and math territories, but as we said, delivered with a charmingly ethereal sonic formula.
