As undoubtedly one of the most intriguing and experimental tunes I’ve heard all year, ‘me’ comes courtesy of Texas-based singer/songwriter and producer Sean Holshouser, AKA Re.s.
A powerfully dark and mystical little number, you’re never quite sure where Re.s is headed next sonically. And that’s the beauty of the track…it keeps you on the edge of unpredictability and fascination.
Trying to find a genre to stick ‘me’ into is tough, but as you know, that’s often the type of song that we fall hard for here at Mesmerized. Is it dark pop? EDM? Minimalist trap? Truthfully, whatever you want to label it, it’s a tune that transcends sonic boundaries and creates its very own space.
Produced and recorded in the musician’s home studio, ‘me’ was inspired by Sean’s feelings of inadequacy and frustration regarding his career. Serving as somewhat of a vent over the conflict, it’s a track that embodies a journey of catharsis.
Previously performing under the moniker Resaixo, Sean decided to revamp his alias earlier this year to Re.s, indicating that this may be a fresh start for the artist. “‘me’ is the beginning of a new era,” he says. “One which is based around mystique and vulnerability, with a clear storytelling intention for the future”.
