Emerging from Port Angeles, US, Raygun Carver is a charming storyteller that would perfectly fit a smoky speakeasy, frequented by gangsters and lost souls alike. ‘Everywhere You Go Is Where You’ll Be’ sounds like the type of relatable and friendly philosophical question people would spend many glasses of whiskey and cigars discussing about. That’s Carver’s main strength, the ability to create a fictional world through his lyrics and music, also thanks to a raspy, dark and hypnotising vocal tone.
A stunning take on the genre, ‘Everywhere You Go Is Where You’ll Be’ is inspired by the ‘rubber hose’ cartoons of the 30s and the gipsy jazz of the Klezmer sound. Vocals and guitars were mainly recorded at home by Carver himself, while Robert Wollam recorded drums and produced the album from his studio in Smith River, California.
Blending Americana, Blues and veiled Jazz influences, ‘Everywhere You Go Is Where You’ll Be’ is also quite a cinematic record; in that, it manages to set up a whole vibe, simply by being played out loud. That’s the magic good music can create. Lyrically, the single seeks to reflect on the old saying, ‘wherever you go, there you are’ – isn’t that right, guv’nor?
