We rejoice every day in the cathartic power of music. Exploring and celebrating bad experiences through a song can often aid acceptance and self-growth, a function that we’d define essential in the developing cycle of our society and collective consciousness. London newcomers Quenta know it well, sharing a piece that’s flavoured with authenticity and honesty, aiming to connect with the listener on a deeper level. ‘Family 4 Sale’ is not only an impressive record, both in terms of performance and sound design. It’s also a majestic lyrical journey, a heart-shaking, first-hand dive into the duo’s personal experience, sharing a painful tale of family challenges and breakup sadness.
They do so with a certain creative flair, to be fair. Given the sensibility around the lyrical theme, one might expect a poignant ballad or something along those lines. Instead, Quenta showcase their musical dynamism by pairing a fragile and introspective topline with a charming trip-hop-flavoured, electronica-based arrangement, really hitting the mark when it comes to freshness and originality.
Their eclecticism is perhaps a strong reason why we don’t necessarily perceive ‘Family 4 Sale’ as a ‘sad’ song. Instead, it’s this kaleidoscopic, haunting and dark gem, resembling various references we picked up over the years… but not really fitting any artistic box. Quenta are creating their own artistic universe, and we sure want to be part of it.
