Proklaim Delves into Old-School Hip-Hop in ‘soul session’

Proklaim shares a rather witty observation: early hip-hop always had a strong playful and uplifting character to it. Willing to revisit such a concept, the Namibian rapper shares ‘soul session’, a single packed with charisma, confidence and positivity. Starting from an old-school instrumental – groovy and funk-flavoured – Proklaim explores contrasting lyricism, using contemporary flow over a traditional production.

Such a stark contrast creates a push-and-pull tension that works very well, fully keeping the listeners on their toes – keeping them engaged in the track. Spoken word sections help it rise to a higher artistic status, offering a glimpse into the now varied and eclectic catalogue of the Windhoek-based creative.

About the release, Proklaim explains: “There’s an innocence and fun to early hip-hop songs that I wanted to see reimagined. I looked for a beat that had those qualities. I then tried to use progressive flows on it while capturing the old-school feel of fun and innocence early rap had”.
