“Float Away” captured me very quickly once I realised I could really relate to its message and how there are not many songs in my library that specifically talk about this emotion. Prepare For The Future crafted his latest single alongside vocalist Eryn Young delivering a song about mental health and personal issues from the perspective of someone close. Empathy but also anguish for a loved one that slowly ‘floats far away’, and there isn’t much you can do but watch it unfold.
The song is a minimal electronic pop track with dynamic arrangements that contain reverbs and spaces that do deliver this idea of drifting from the song’s concept. Eryn Young’s voice is delicate but with a firm tone that – seemed to me – it resembles the speaking voice of a friend that is trying to check on you but also respects your boundaries; well performed.
Some of the voice effects reminded me of producer and artist Cashmere Cat and the backing vocals had something from Cheat Codes too. I can totally see this song related to a video game, maybe for some gaming playlists but also some of those playlists for the times you really want to be alone and drown in silence.
Prepare For The Future’s “Float Away” manages to deliver an important topic in a relatable way and with a great sense of dynamic flow, knowing exactly how to move into the private darkness of someone we love.
