Post-Punk Energy in Swiss Banks’ Latest Gem ‘Animals’

Listening to ‘Animals’ is certainly a rewarding experience. We had no idea who they were (yet), but we instantly connected to their eclectic indie and art-rock universe. It’s an emotional listen: Swiss Banks are not afraid to create nostalgic, haunting and poignant musical gems, slowly kidnapping their fans into an intense alternate universe where they are judge, jury and executioner. Not to fear: you’ll be wanting to get back there pretty soon.

Emerging from Austin, Texas, Swiss Banks could be defined as a post-punk band, in its broadest meaning: absorbing a plethora of influences (indie, pop, new wave), the group showcases a mellower sound that is modern yet anchored in the most respectful tradition. David Bowie, The Smiths and Joy Division all come to mind, lending a piece of their identity to the Austin talents.

On the back of their debut year, we can now safely say Swiss Banks are a solid reality. ‘Animals’ comes as a lead single off the homonym EP: we urge you to discover more about them, you won’t regret it. We certainly didn’t! There’s something raw and unfiltered about the Texans’ sound stream: perhaps it is their deep, sleazy vocals, perfectly crowning a punchy yet emotional instrumental. Guitars are gritty, but never too rough, drums are blended with light percussions. A formula that works.
