Quickly establishing themselves as one of my favourite bands around, German-based alternative rockers Porter return with another cracking single in the form of ‘Tout Est Pardonné’. Inspired by the final words of German student and anti-Nazi political activist Sophie Scholl, Porter sends out a strong message of resistance and defiance. “There is no reason or excuse today to keep our mouths shut in the face of the obvious threat of fascist tendencies in society,” says the act.
Serving as the fourth single from the band’s forthcoming album ‘Genosha’, ‘Tout Est Pardonné’ leads the listener astray at the beginning. With a catchy and mellifluous opening, it’s easy to believe that you’re in for a light and almost carefree tune – but that illusion is soon shattered, and the track plunges into a weightier and more profound composition.
With each listen, the song’s intricacies and depth reveal themselves, and I find that to be true of many Porter tunes. Their work is complex, and layered, and leaves me somewhat in awe of their musical craftsmanship.
‘Genosha’ can’t come soon enough. It’s a record that I’m dying to hear in full. What a track! What a band! And what a revelation their music continues to be!
