Polish Songstress Ols Unveils Cathartic, Hypnotising Piece

There’s something extremely mystical in Ols’ music. Steeped in cinematic neo-folk, blissful textures and enchanting vocal harmonies, the Polish songstress has made it her mission to write material that’s highly spiritual and almost magical, wrapping listeners into a fictional liminal world where we can all escape reality. Boasting a charming, evocative voice, Ols writes in Polish, yet the resulting pieces will appeal to a global audience, as the focus here is not primarily on the lyricism, but on the overarching atmosphere.

‘proch kość liść’ (‘dust bone leaf’)’ is the perfect example of that. Ols’ latest effort, the track finds its unique identity in tribal percussions, glorious flutes and a plethora of soundscapes and intricate harmonies. One could meditate on such a vivid, fascinating musical background. Echoing a classic neo-folk lullaby written in ¾, proch kość liść serves as an entreés to Ols’ upcoming album ‘Poświaty’ (‘Afterglows’).

Speaking about the mysterious aesthetic in the attached videos, Ols explains: “Inspired by folk horror aesthetics, the video was filmed in the Książ Landscape Park, in a very peculiar, eerie place – on the marshy area left after the former Swan Pond.”
