We have already confirmed Podge Lane’s exceptional songwriting prowess. Writing about the project’s previous release ‘Common Country Misconceptions’, we proudly declared: “a confirmed master, drawing inspiration from personal experience and delving deep into human consciousness”. Now, the Irish talent returns with his latest offering, ‘Multiple Dead Ends’, a striking album that invites listeners to discover a slightly different side of the Cork-based artist.
If previously Podge Lane found himself delving into acoustic tones, Americana-like flavourings and a distinct folk outlook, he is now more comfortable pursuing a fiercer, more energetic sonic matter. Relying on bluesy and rock’n’roll guitars, ‘Multiple Dead Ends’ still sounds like a Podge Lane record, only sharper and more distorted. It works: From the groovy and punchy ‘Tough Enough’ to the post-rock vibes in ‘The Follow On’, there’s something for everyone in this album.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the songs, Podge Lane explains: “I always planned to tell my first two album stories the way I did, my past and my present, and to end the trilogy with this one, my future. I tried to detail my feelings of this fear of ageing through a winding narrative that never really ends, cause I guess there is no end.”
