pleaselevitate Share Retrowave Gem ‘i lie’

Don’t let the intro fool you: you are not listening to New Order! More like Molchat Doma: drawing influences from new wave and 80s stylings, Belarus-based duo pleaselevitate perfectly fits the ethos of retrowave – a genre that has found its fertile garden in Eastern Europe, in particular – we welcome it and cherish it and we are here for it!

‘i lie’ has a bit of everything in it, from spacious shoegaze guitar tones to tight and brutalist drum machines, all drenched in myriads of textures and plastic goo. The result is a record that feels nostalgic, yet incredibly contemporary. It’s a piece made for escapism, a cathartic expression of our times, a dive into the unknown that yet feels familiar.

Yulia and Chinmay (a.k.a. A3ON) are the heroes behind such a masterpiece; her hypnotising and evocative vocals are a perfect fit for such an eclectic instrumental. Speaking about the song, pleaselevitate explain: “I lie” unveils a lyrical landscape that delves into the complexities of human emotion. With the haunting refrain of “every time I feel like I should die, but don’t believe me ’cause I lie,” the song becomes a poignant anthem of inner conflict”.
