Releasing an album is always a bold and courageous act for an artist; sharing such a large slice of one’s artistry it’s an incredibly cathartic and fragile endeavour, and we are glad Plastic Barricades have done exactly that. ‘We Stayed Indoors’ represents the culmination of a journey initiated more than a year ago. Multiple EPs and singles all pointed towards a collective picture of emotional relatability, a quality that’s much present in the London-based indie pop outfit. Featuring ten honest and nuanced tracks, the record offers a bleak picture of life during and after the pandemic.
The sense of vibrant apathy and solitude so common in our society is captured with playful softness, guiding the listener towards self-healing and acceptance. In a way, Plastic Barricades tries to step out of such a painful experience, sharing poignant and hopeful melodies with a fierce attitude; the goal is to leave it all behind, at last.
Sonically, ‘We Stayed Indoors’ is quite eclectic, delving into pop, folk, indie and everything in between. Staying clear from hard distortions and heavy tones, the album navigates lighter territories, allowing head honcho Dan Kert’s vocals to fully flourish and capture the listeners with their unmatched charisma.
