Phantom Isle Releases Indie-Electro Gem ‘2001’

Music can be a powerful emotional tool. Dealing with grief, loss and sorrow, reckoning with change and the future: art can be instrumental in allowing one’s healing process. British electro-indie outfit Phantom Isle knows it very well, having lost a band member to cancer in 2019. Today, the group looks at both the future and the past, delivering futuristic yet nostalgic sound matter with reminiscent lyrical themes.

Emerging from Northampton, Phantom Isle had a productive year, releasing an EP – ‘Out of Blue’ – which blends indie-infused drums and guitars with vintage electronica, championing some of the staples of that era. While five tracks are focused on the 90’, giving us orchestral stabs, acid basslines and breakbeat tones, the last episode of the record is titled ‘2001’, certainly focusing on all the arpeggiated and dancy goodness of early millennia.

Channelling their inner !!! and LCD Soundsystem, Phantom Isle transcends into punchy indie and solid synths, providing the perfect framework for their evocative, energetic vocals. Lyrically, the track seeks to reconcile with the loss of a school friend in 2001. You see where that is going…

A worthy record for a fresh and innovative group. Looking forward to hearing more!
