There’s something to be said for simplicity, in an over-complicated music landscape. With productions getting cleaner and cleaner, bolder sound design and ever-futuristic stylings, we always rejoice when coming across an artist that throws it back to basics. Peter Stone is one such figure, finding comfort and assurance in warm acoustic guitar tones and cathartic lyricism.
Exploring alt-folk with honesty and authenticity, Stone pens poignant and emotional gems that completely overwhelm the listeners. Their heart-shaking character rescues even the most desperate of listeners, offering a fleeting fragment of hope. ‘Altar’ is the perfect evidence of that. Peter’s latest album, it’s a collection of wholesome material written with intent and purpose.
Also boasting a past militancy in the celebrated group The Rare Occasion, Stone appears not to have lost his artistic flair. In fact, it’s greener than ever: we are lucky to be able to share his music with you all. Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Altar’, he explains: “It evokes the constant struggle to eke out some meaning from here in our tiny spot in the universe”.
