Paul Claxton Returns with Evocative Jewel ‘Viola’

There’s a certain simplicity and innocence in ‘Viola’. Built on a mellow instrumental with clean guitars and polite drums, the record builds the perfect sonic universe where Paul Claxton can flourish. Based in London but originally from Liverpool, the English singer-songwriter finds his unique identity in poignant, evocative pieces balanced between Americana, alt-pop and classic British pop, all smashed up into a uniquely charming formula.

‘Viola’ is the strongest evidence of that, and to be fair, it keeps true to Claxton’s stunning catalogue so far. Writing about one of his previous singles ‘Is There Something Else?’, we proudly declared it “raw emotion, honest storytelling, and musical depth”. We stand by our words: ‘Viola’ is once again a soothing, cathartic slice of musical goodness, crowned by Paul’s luscious and peculiar vocal tone.

Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Viola’, Claxton explains: “It definitely harkens back to the late 60’s & Early 70’s West and East Coast Vibe”. Songwriting giants such as Roy Orbison, John Lennon and Bob Dylan come to mind, sparking a musical journey that feels nostalgic, yet fully contemporary and relatable.
