A unique and quirky creative, Paul Arendt is not your run-of-the-mill songwriter. Living “on a farm with a flip phone” – as he explains – the talented singer focuses on penning intimate and playful folk efforts, accompanied by his trusty acoustic guitar (some bluesy references in there!). The result is meaningful songs and a whole lot of cathartic energy, wrapping the keen listeners into a peculiar, and poignant listening experience.
‘Theo’ is Arendt’s latest single, taken from a long concept album called ‘Forty Years in Babylon’. A nuanced and witty record, ‘Theo’ showcases Paul’s incredible songwriting flair, able to shift from chilled-out singing to electrifying spoken word, often with a hint of drama and common sense. Clocking in at almost five minutes, the track is an impressive display of musical genius.
Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Theo’, Arendt explains: “The song offers a life-affirming dialogue between two people who see different worlds, full of wordplay and energy. Listening to it requires focus, as there is no chorus.”
