‘Modern Day Meltdown’ is an EP that happened almost by chance. You see, its authors, Packetloss, met online through a server-based jam service called Jumulus. Far from each other, the group was able to record their tracks remotely, ultimately compiling a record that’s fierce and energetic. Built over classic punk and garage references, ‘Modern Day Meltdown’ feels pretty vintage, perhaps due to its lo-fi recording quality, something that makes it akin to a late 90s affair.
It is a positive: at a time when everything is polished to the extreme, Packetloss look for a rawer and fuzzier sonic identity, a choice that’s bound to make them stand out from the rest of the global punk scene. ‘Modern Day Meltdown’ features four hard-hitting and rebellious nuggets of rock energy, all showcasing slightly different sides of the band.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the EP, they explain: “It relates to issues of today’s modern struggles and societal challenges. Yet, amidst the chaos, it carries a hopeful undertone, emphasizing resilience, unity, and the human spirit’s indomitable will to rise above.”
