Owen Young Shares Rich and Nostalgia-Laced New EP ‘Three’

Ontario-based singer/songwriter Owen Young was a serious favourite around these parts last year. We fell deeply in love with his cathartic eight-track offering ‘Town Line‘, and the gifted musician now returns with ‘Three’, the third part of his larger four-chapter album ‘Muddy River’.

Signalling a thematic departure from the themes of ‘Town Line’, ‘Three’ is described by Owen as “a letter to an old friend, a lament by a child of the sixties, and lastly, a rant”. Spawned during the pandemic and its aftermath, Young’s latest EP provides more fine examples of his unique blend of Americana and folky goodness.

First up is ‘Voices In The Dust’, an utterly beautiful and delicate piece of music that sets the tone expertly before the more upbeat and energetic sounds of ‘Runnin’ Down The River’ step up to the plate. Rich, textured, and simply sublime.

‘That Could Have Been You’ is the EP’s seven-minute epic closing, and feels more like a short story with a gentle music accompaniment than just a song. It’s the perfect showcase of Owen’s storytelling and songwriting prowess, and rounds off his latest offering leaving us desperate for more. Hopefully, he won’t make us wait too long!
