A playful and vibrant offering, ‘No Debate’ is as uplifting and traditional as one would expect. Built over folk and country influences, the record delivers a pure, unfiltered slice of Americana, transporting the listeners straight into the old Wild West. Well, there’s a whiff of modernity in it too, with Portland-based Ovide lending his DIY ethos and raw, deep vocal to an already compelling track.
Recorded and mixed by Ovide himself in collaboration with Evan Murphy, ‘No Debate’ is perhaps not everyone’s cup of tea. Pushing a charming honky-tonk, saloon-like character, the song finds its unmistakable identity among acoustic and steel guitars, a double bass and various fiddles. The bouncy, carefree nature of the instrumental is rather positive and dance-inducing.
Joining Ovide on the single, we also find Pat Lyons of Colter Wall’s Scary Prairie Boys, esteemed maritime Ray Legere, and Craig Akins, taking the moniker The Broken Horseshoe Band.
