‘Moke Lake’ is the energetic debut single from Obscenity State, a London-based electro-dance musician who explores self-discovery through the merging of sound and vision. Nilly Brook is the brains behind Obscenity State, and her debut release showcases an artist who is willing to get experimental, inventive, and avant-garde. ‘Moke Lake’ sucks you into Brook’s hypnotic and rich soundscape, with deep synths, intricate drum sequences, and just an overall immersive and expansive sound.
You’ll also hear in the background the evocative chants of a Persian Avaz master, a female performer prohibited from singing in public since the revolution of ’79. Brook is of Iranian heritage herself and is driven by her experiences of growing up in a family torn apart by the Iranian revolution.
Originally, Brook had founded Obscenity State as a post-punk/dance band. Now though, she has taken the giant leap of going forward solo. It’s a brave and bold decision from her. But then again, that’s what Nilly Brook is all about. Her debut EP is scheduled to be released in early January of 2023, and I think I speak on behalf of the whole team here when I say that we cannot wait to hear it!
