When delving into Number One Babe Team’s latest album, one might find themselves disoriented by the many musical references. Jumping from early ‘2000 punk-pop to more emotional indie-rock, it’s hard to know where the Salt Lake City-based band might end up. Wherever the destination might be, the group will take you there with style and character, gifting the listener a unique, perhaps nostalgic experience. ‘See You Later’ is exactly that, a majestic exploration of human nature and behaviours, particularly related to the incredibly delicate period we all just went through.
A reaction to the pandemic, ‘See You Later’ seeks to draw the important teachings everyone was able to absorb in the process, in the hope of keeping on living life with those newly-learned realizations. Number One Babe Team make it easy to remember, thanks to a relatable and friendly sonic style, firmly planted in the indie tradition of the past two decades.
Head Honcho Austin Michael drives the project forward, performing the majority of instruments and vocals. In fact, the record is also dedicated to his father, signalling music’s central role in helping Austin deal with grief and loss.
