Tickling our love for nostalgia and throwbacks, LunaRover have certainly sparked our curiosity. ‘Chimera’ is the project’s debut effort, released a couple of weeks ago. Drenched in retro synth-pop influences and a touch of playful indie matter, the track is an absolute joy to listen to, a boundless jump into hazy atmospheres and expansive sound design, all coupled with euphoric arpeggiators and punchy drum machines.
What more could you want? That’s all we need. Evocative melodies, anthemic vocals and meaningful lyricism are too much of a dandy package to be ignored. Delving into a relatable post-mortem of a failed relationship, the song investigates the authenticity and honesty of attraction, and how much that can skew our decision-making. Ben Pelletier and Kevin Rieth are the talented humans behind such rich artistry, long-time collaborators and a perfect match, sonically speaking.
Explaining the creative process behind the track, LunaRover explains: “It reflects a past failed relationship, highlighting its fleeting nature with lyrics such as ‘we were riding a breeze.’ The subject comes to terms with the fact that he or she may be in love with the idea of their partner rather than their partner as a person. Ultimately, the subject comes to the realization that ‘I can’t be your answer.’”
