Active since 2020, Nohland has showcased his hypnotising ethereal style plenty of times, sharing a plethora of singles packed with poignancy, nostalgia and melancholia. A rather wholesome artist, the London-based creative balances over spacious guitars and bright soundscapes, and you’ll often find him at the intersection of indie, pop and electronica, perhaps embodying what a lot of us would call indietronica. Now, Nohland returns with his first release of the year, a stunning and emotional gem titled ‘Closer To You’.
Built over crepuscular tones, the record delves into modern electro-pop, pairing an arpeggiated piano with a modern orchestral arrangement made up of sweeping and long synthetisers. Nohland’s evocative and intimate vocal tone crowns the song perfectly. Notably, everything is self-produced, a sign that the talented artist is not only a gifted singer and songwriter, but also a wider music visionary.
Delving into the lyrical inspiration for ‘Closer To You’, Nohland explains: “This song is more than the usual love song, it’s a piano ballad that tells a story about being in love and missing that person. ‘Closer To You’ is about how words could never describe how this person makes you feel and what you would do to get closer to them.”
