Out today, ‘Memories’ signals the debut EP by Dublin-based, Brazilian artist Nissu. Featuring six sunny and uplifting episodes – one of them, ‘Connection’, was featured on our site last year – the record delivers a slice of bubbly, romantic and euphoric mainstream pop, taking cues from major popstars such as Katy Perry, among others. Built over punchy electronic production and dazzling synths, ‘Memories’ is especially relatable and familiar.
Exploring themes of “love, friendship, resilience, and self-discovery” – as Nissu eloquently explains – the EP doesn’t seek to be metaphorical or complex, and not even that introspective. Simply, it aims to brighten the listener’s day, also revealing a great deal of dance-powered energy and upbeat attitude. Nissu’s dynamic and evocative vocals are the perfect match for such a meaningful and vibrant offering.
Delving deeper into the record, the talented creative continues: “I wanted Memories to feel like an open diary, a collection of moments that shaped me. Some songs were written years ago, others more recently, but they all tell a story that I hope resonates with people.” Trey Vittetoe is the producer behind ‘Memories’, with occasional features from Ma Viana and rapper Paigey Cakey.
