Diving into ‘Seatbelt’ also means diving into the story of two talented artists and creatives, casually finding each other and instantly building a strong musical bond. Presented by British producer Night House and multidisciplinary hero Reid (also known as Sophie Reid), ‘Seatbealt’ is the trait d’union between intimate electronica and introspective lyricism, highlighting the strengths of its authors. The record echoes dreamy tones, embarking on a journey around indie-pop, artistic lyricism and 80s influences. The results are absolutely staggering, showcasing Night House and Reid’s ability to put together a sonic formula that feels edgy, fresh and orchestral, while paying its dues to art pop and the classics.
It’s interesting to read about the way the talented pair met each other. Quite randomly, or better, unexpectedly. Who knows, perhaps the universe meant for them to meet one day. Seeing what they were able to achieve together, we’d settle on that opinion. In reality, Night House had the pleasure of witnessing one of Reid’s eclectic theatrical performances, and – mesmerized by the unique blend of disciplines and depth of themes – approached her for a writing session.
The rest is history, and future, for that matter. ‘Seatbealt’ is one of the most nuanced and refined – perhaps also elegant – offering we have heard in a while. You’d be a fool not to check it out.
