Nicholas Dante might be a new name on the scene, but his music feels already mature. Debuting earlier this year with ‘Rebellion’, the New York resident showcased a haunting, cinematic style, with a knack for catchy hooks and fierce lyricism. Now, Dante unveils his latest offering, the hypnotising and anthemic banger ‘Breathe’, a pop gem drawing inspiration from early 2010’ RnB – bouncy, deep percussions and vocal layering (think Timbaland or Missy Elliott).
Co-written by Dante and Timms, ‘Breathe’ also showcases a certain eclecticism in Dante’s artistry, with him not being afraid to dive into conflicting genres, although maintaining a certain gritty quality, especially when it comes to big, wide bass sounds. Lyrically, the track is deeper than it appears to be. While it is the perfect companion to wild times in the club, it is also a truthful empowering anthem, exploring themes of anxiety struggles and newly-found sexuality.
The project draws inspiration from music icons such as Britney Spears, Madonna, and Janet Jackson, who have all experimented with electronic sounds and avant-garde art while pursuing their strong pop imprint. Similarly, Dante aspires to create a unique sound that blends various influences, resulting in a style that is entirely his own.
