Championing what she defines as ‘sad girl indie’, Neve Bowen delivers material that’s nostalgic, melancholic and pretty introspective, making for an intimate and meaningful listening experience. Laying her charged lyricism on a bed of modern indie pop arrangements, she manages to create a personal sound that’s unique and extremely authentic, standing out from the crowd in an industry that seems to be constantly running after trends and proven formulas.
‘Lifeline’ is Bowen’s debut EP, a collection of four original tracks plus an acoustic version. Introduced by its title track, the record jumps straight into poignancy and relatability, with Neve stacking her evocative and luscious vocals on a spacious and cinematic arrangement. It’s intense, yet gentle and soothing. Music for calm souls. ‘Deep Blue Ocean’ and ‘Song For Anna’ keep it going with a more fierce and upbeat offering, although they do share the same reflective energy common to the whole EP. ‘Haunting Sound of Love’ strips it down to ethereal territories, with charming guitars and elegant vocal harmonies reaching right into the listeners’ hearts.
Describing the inspiration behind the record, Neve Bowen explains: “Music has literally saved my life. I wrote a series of songs during 2022 as an outlet for my feelings and ‘Lifeline’ was me at my lowest. Honestly, this song arrived fully formed, a literal lifeline pulling me back from the abyss, telling me to maintain and find another way.”
