Hailing from London, Neon Gru is a living example of what happens when incredibly talented people get together and make art. A trio, the project champions an exciting, eclectic blend of alt-pop, dreamy textures and veiled soulful influences, resulting in a sonic formula that’s hypnotising and euphoric, yet meaningful and evocative. We are told Neon Gru are all seasoned professionals active at the music industry’s highest level – it shows.
‘Something Special’ is their latest effort. Following up from ‘Buttercup’ – a piece that was powerfully bucolic and angelic – the new record seems to follow the same path only partially, with ‘Something Special’ exhibiting a stronger indie and groovy character. Drenched in stylish percussions and tight guitar rhythms, the song highlights Ny Oh, Ru Lemer and Leon Marley Itzler in their best creative shape, and honestly, the final result is fierce, bold and very catchy.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the track, Neon Gru explain: “A song to remind you not to let work get in the way of loving people. Share your exciting projects with those around you, even in the rush of starting something new… Connect daily!”
