Nelleke Returns with Stunning EP ‘bird /on concrete’

There’s a pure, unfiltered layer of beauty over ‘bird/on concrete’. A soft, cathartic force pulling us towards it, helping us escape from reality and enter Nelleke’s evocative, immersive artistic universe. Among crepuscular textures and wavering tones, the Dutch talent’s angelic vocals reign supreme, guiding us – and the listeners – towards musical enchantment, yet providing a great deal of introspection and personal reckoning.

It’s a life-altering record. Impossible to remain neutral about it. One might love it – or not; in any case, ‘bird /on concrete’ is bound to leave a stunning impression on everyone, thanks to its dramatic intensity and heart-shaking lyricism. Over six impressive offerings, the EP jumps from alt-folk acceptance (the likes of ‘hotel song’ and ‘engine’) to spacious and cinematic acoustic gold (‘the return’, ‘terracotta flowers’, among others), all flavoured with emotional orchestral textures and Bon Iver-esque instrumental eclecticism.

A worthy record. Speaking about the inspiration behind it, Nelleke explains: “Each track is a glimpse into her personal journey – a journey that resonates with anyone who’s ever questioned, dreamed, or searched for a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them.”
