Whether we have hit the peaking point, or whether it’s a reaction to our prosperity, for now we must adapt. Maryland resident Nëk helps to do exactly that, creating art with strong ties to our modern times. The talented rapper just released ‘Misti’s Blues’, an EP aiming to highlight some of the relevant inner conflicts relating to our society as a whole, while drawing from a convolute personal experience.
Exploring his past as a drug abuser, Nëk seeks to also celebrate his single mother, recognizing the challenges she had to face and endure. During the course of 6 tracks, ‘Misti’s Blues’ manages to connect with the listeners in multiple ways, showcasing its author’s humanity and raw character. Exploring themes of poverty, struggle and irrational fears, the EP is one of the most relatable and heart-shaking records we have heard in a while.
All that lyrical prowess is embraced into wonderfully modern productions, influenced by old-school boom-bap and contemporary lo-fi tones. Soulful and jazzy – at times – ‘Misti’s Blues’ is an offering you should not be overlooking.
