Incredibly sparse and measured, ‘Ambient2’ is a bold, leftfield sonic exploration aimed at pushing the boundaries of both the listeners and the talented humans behind the project. Calling themselves by the rather mysterious moniker #NAME?, the British creatives inaugurate their foray into avant-garde and ambient music, doing so with a certain pop sensibility, as they declare.
Well, we reckon they are referring to the piece’s harmonic character; nothing is detuned, and no elements clash with each other. A plethora of long soundscapes and cathartic textures develop over an uber-minimal arrangement, with frequent pauses and moments of silence. Make no mistake, this is a very obscure and fringe offering, certainly not for everyone. But, if you were to resonate with it, you’d be richer, culturally speaking.
Speaking about the record, #NAME2? explain: “We have tried to stay within the functional pop sensibilities, but flirt with unconventionalism in terms of structure and notes progression. Created digitally, with the idea of an analogue-sounding (aged) ‘feel’.”
