Nadine Randle: “Just because a song has millions of streams does not make it good”

Expanding my musical horizons is Nadine Randle, a rising artist with dual citizenship in the UK and Sweden. Working alongside renowned music producer Aqcora, her latest single ‘Wings’ is one of the most infectious and uplifting tunes I’ve heard all year. Growing with confidence with each new release, Nadine is a musician to keep an eye (and an ear on) going forward!

Interested to find out more about her artistry, I was thrilled when she agreed to an interview! Chatting with us about how ‘Wings’ came about, who some of her biggest influences are, and what aspects of being a musician she loves, please give a big welcome to our new friend Nadine Randle!

Welcome aboard Nadine! I’m super excited to introduce you to our ever-expanding audience! Before we get into the nitty-gritty, could you tell us about your musical journey?

I grew up with my mother playing the piano and was hooked on music as a child. In my teens, I used to listen to the OldSkool mix tapes and that is what got me into DJing. But, I wanted to stand out when I was DJing and decided to do a music course so that I could play my own tracks whilst I DJ’d once they were up to scratch. This took me many many years lol!

I started singing as a small child, I believe I was 3 years old, and I started entering talent shows etc. I had my first manager and label at the age of 15 and have since then worked professionally with music. I used to sing along with my mother in her kitchen 🙂

I’m not going to lie…’Wings’ has taken me completely out of my musical comfort zone, but I couldn’t be more grateful that it came into my life! It’s so infectious! What does your latest single mean to you and what do you want our readers to know about the tune?

I wrote the lyrics as I sat on the living room floor. They just came to me as I felt the music surround me. I usually write about things happening in my life and at that moment I was longing for real love, true love that really has no boundaries – to be completely carried away so you feel like you can fly with or without wings. To be totally swept away!

I know that you worked alongside gold and platinum music producer Aqcora to create ‘Wings’. What was that experience like and how did the collaboration come about?

My label introduced us and after that, it became very easy to just understand each other. Deyn who is partly from the UK like me understood my vision and I understood his. It was a very easy and pleasant collab.

Who would you put down as some of your biggest musical influences and who would you ultimately credit for helping shape and mould your overall sound?

Whitney, Janet, Michael, Adele, Madonna, ABBA etc. I mean I listen to all kinds of music, as long as it resonates in my soul and I feel something I always follow that sound and artist. But Whitney and Bodyguard really woke my musical ears!

What would “being successful” in the music industry look like for you? And do you see it as an imperative or more of a cherry on top?

Just to be able to reach as many people as I possibly can reach in the world. And, of course, to play live at the O2!

What aspects of being a musician do you cherish most? And on the flip side, what would you say have been some of the biggest challenges you’ve encountered?

I love the connection with listeners and fans and meeting new producers, singers, and artists! THAT’S THE BEST!

The biggest challenges are the pressures of the figures, how many streams, how many followers etc. It’s like a competition rather than about good music. Just because a song has millions of streams does not make it good – and vice versa.

If you were allowed to collaborate with any musician or band, who would you choose and why?

Zayn!!! At the moment his new sound is really making an impact in the music world! His voice is insane!

Thanks so much for chatting with us Nadine! It’s been awesome getting to know you a little better. Before we say farewell, what comes next for you musically?

I have a new single I’m working on and another in the pipes!
