Myris Unveil Eclectic EP ‘Letters’

Explaining how their project flourishes on strong eclecticism, Myris put themselves forward as one of the freshest and most interesting newcomers of 2023. Debuting earlier in the year, the trio has worked towards their first EP release, ‘Letters’, a five-track journey into the band’s wide sonic references and dazzling poignancy. Emerging from Oklahoma City, Myris include pianist/keyboardist and producer Lincoln Wear, vocalist Trevor Ryan, and guitarist Riley Cox.

They don’t have a drummer: after all, while guitars are a staple of their sound, Myris also incorporates a healthy amount of electro-pop, layering intimate, crepuscular beats over light soundscapes and luscious, spacious guitar riffing. It all works well, as showcased in ‘Letters’. Introduced by ‘Sugar’, the record enters anthemic territories, delivering a punchy, intense and fuzzy gem with cinematic percussions and saturated vocals.

Title track ‘Letters’ pursues an emotional, evocative pop character, giving us a glimpse of Trevor Ryan’s stunning vocals. If ‘IDK’ builds on hip-hop beats and joyful, uplifting energy, ‘Stale’ delivers a short yet impactful ballad, reminding us of early Coldplay in the process (that’s a compliment). ‘Even If’ takes the EP to a close the same way it started, with a prominent indie quality and an unexpected metal-flavoured finale!

Delving into the record’s lyricism, Myris explain: “This EP explores the timeline from beginning to end of a subjectively toxic relationship. From the varying perspective of both partners, the listener is immersed within familiar highs and the inevitable lows of adoration and tragedy.”
