Eclectic and vibrant, ‘Denial’ is the kind of track that’s neither uplifting nor gloomy. Perfectly balanced in the middle, it simply seems to appeal to everyone’s inner consciousness with a veiled sense of fierceness, perhaps helped by its kaleidoscopic arrangement. Built on indie and electronic stylings, ‘Denial’ is uber-contemporary and engaging – the perfect business card for Californian outfit My Satellite.
Driving a particularly successful career, the pair has found a winning formula, incorporating heaps of retro influences into a modern package. The results are for everyone to see, with the Los Angeles-based pair boasting impressing streaming figures. Made up of Bryan Stage and Andy Marshall, the project is as healthy as it could be.
Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Denial’, they explain: “This song is about that morning after a couple’s first big fight. The first time when hurtful things are said. There is yelling. There are tears. The song comes in after all that. It’s that awkward time when things are still raw, not fully resolved, but one partner presses the other to put it behind them and enjoy the day and the subsequent night happily together”.
