There’s something very familiar in My Glass World’s music, and after some reflection, we concluded that head honcho Jamie Telford’s vocals have a lot in common with a young Dave Gahan, especially seeing the fuzzy treatment that seems to characterise them. That said, the sonic references are not much Depeche Mode-Esque, with ‘Citizen of Nowhere’ – the project’s latest effort – pursuing anthemic and poppy rock elements.
Built over charming stylized percussions, the track navigates a simple, primal drum groove, further augmented by electric guitars and cinematic textures. Moreover, the single also rejoices from Sean Read’s sax and woodwinds, giving the record a highly unique identity. Layered vocals and crepuscular textures complete what’s a very compelling sonic picture.
‘Citizen of Nowhere’ anticipates a longer album, ‘Assorted Marvel’, expected for the 15th of January 2023. Speaking about it, My Glass World explain: “The album title, Assorted Marvels, comes from the half remembered former name of a Victorian shop in Kennington, London – now run as a gallery by artist friends Rob Kesseler and Agalis Manessi. It seemed to suit the collection of material that we had assembled”.
