My Glass World Return with Eclectic Album ‘Assorted Marvels’

We were writing about My Glass World fairly recently, celebrating ‘Citizen of Nowhere’ as “highly unique, layered vocals and crepuscular textures complete what’s a very compelling sonic picture.” We stand by our words: the London-based pair certainly knows where to look for inspiration. If the single mentioned above was rather bold and coarse, quite 80s powered, the duo’s brand new album – ‘Assorted Marvels’, showcases a more eclectic sonic picture, evidence of the project’s many references and influences.

Take for instance ‘We Are One’; over a soothing, mellow pop instrumental, My Glass World develop a classic piece of pop music, further enhanced by the acid-jazz flavoured saxophone and vocal harmonies. ‘White Out’ instead goes back to the pair’s most primal and tribal instincts, sparking fierceness and electrifying energy with every note.

Overall, ‘Assorted Marvels’ is a surprising offering from the British project, one that’s pretty hypnotising and immersive, especially for the keen pop listener. There’s not just tradition in it, but also the willingness to push the genre boundaries, making for a record that’s familiar, yet highly innovative. Approved!
